AMAZING HUGE RABBIT CASTLES BUILT OUT OF WOOD IN GERMANY!
UNBELIEVABLE!
CHECK THEM OUT!!!

Bunny Environments are many and varied. No longer should bunnies live in 2x3 cages where they literally can die of boredom. Bunnies were meant to run and jump and play and explore, and confining them to a cage all of their lives is the cruelest thing one can do. On top of which, when we confine them like that....we lose out on seeing the most delightful antics of a wonderful little animal that God created for amazing visual enjoyment!

If you want to have great enjoyment from your bunnies...give them the largest living space that is possible for you. Do the best you can for them! Sometimes free run of the whole house is not possible, and I understand that. But you can do better than a cage...and it doesn't have to cost you a fortune! A bunny environment can consist of any of the following....

A large cage for a safe haven, surrounded by a pen can be great
Just a pen by itself can be great
Nic cages can be wonderful
A hutch brought indoors with a pen around it is wonderful
And special bunny habitats are amazing. Keep an eye out for future photos.....

I have been researching this for several years now, and trying out different things with my own bunnies, and have come to the conclusion that there are "many ways to please your bunny"!
Several of my buns have double pens in spaces in my home where they never get in the way, yet they are part of my life all the time. They are set up in a way that I can easily open the pen and let them run around with me for a few hours and then feed them and safely enclose them again, while I let another set of bunnies out to play with me.
One of my bunnies, Dottie, has the entire space of family room from one wall to the other in front of my fireplace, about 3 feet in width from the back wall.....A low pen runs the whole length of the room and she can run wild back and forth, she is with us when we are in the family room which is a lot, and when I am watching a movie, I open the pen and she has the whole family room, and will often come sit with me.
Another bunny, Cloudy, has the whole side of my bedroom..a pen divides the room and since I sleep on the wall side, the pen is something my husband never has to be bothered with. He hardly even knows its there.
One of my couples, Leo and Kribble live in a Leithpetwerks double condo in the kitchen. It has a pen around it so they can go in and out but are still contained. In the mornings, I open the pen and all day they run around the kitchen picking up all the food I drop like little scavengers. I have to make sure I only drop healthy bunny foods! :)
My other couple, Bear and Mini live in a double condo within a pen that takes up half the dining room behind my dining table. If I ever have a dinner party, the pen gets folded up and they stay in the double condo for a few hours......while we eat and the guests oooh and ahhhh over how cute they are.
And then there is Dellarose, who dislikes other bunnies and people, though she tolerates me slightly...and she lives at the top of the stair-landing with a 10 foot plexi-glass window overlooking my living and dining room. She holds court over the whole house and all of us from there.....I never have to move her , but I do take her out for exercise in the garden when I go out there myself for some sun!
I don't own too many cages except for a few for my foster babies. But cages can be useful for many things as well!

This is only the beginning of my Environments page..stay tuned..there will be pictures and examples of awesome bunny environments continuously, as I discover them.....

ENVIRONMENT PHOTOS
Here is a picture of Cloudy near the foot of my bed, on my side of our bedroom holding court in my reading chair!  Unbelievably, she has never tried to jump over the pen nor tried to escape by climbing over the bed, despite the fact that I have made it easy for her to do so. She is quite happy and content to own her own sweet piece of my bedroom and race back and forth alongside my bed to wake me in the morning!

Cloudy on her/my chair!

These are Leithpetwerks cages in use.....

Here's (below)an interesting habitat for a bun....

And another great habitat idea......

In this environment (below)...... there are some issues....can you tell what they are?

The flooring looks slippery, there is little for the rabbit to do as there is no wood or cardboard to play with or chew, no toys, nothing to take away boredom.

The ledge in the back is lined with linoleum that is loose and curls up, so that a rabbit might nibble, and get GI problems or trip on it. The right part of the ledge appears slippery. If jumping from there, the rabbit may slip, and drop hard on the tiled floor and the landing on such a hard floor will be hard on joints.

However, this could easily be made into an interesting and safe environment if worked on.

and still another...called a  display habitat....  used in pet stores mostly....but a little bigger and with mesh sides and top and a door to get out.... instead of glass, this could be a cool indoor home..and the bottom is great storage for hay and food etc.

These two (below) are easy, though sometimes for a bigger bunny they might need to be larger and higher.
It all depends on the bunny. Pens have great possibility because you can conform them to many different sizes and spaces.

The next 7 environments (below) are the homes of Yara, Kaspi and 2 other bunnies. They live in an apartment.
The big cage with litter-box is always open. Their food and water is there, and a “bed”, toys. It can be closed, when workers come to do something in my apt, which is luckily rare.

The narrow pen with penthouse contains a hay rack, and a nibbling basket. No door here. It really is small, but both like to rest in it, or on the top. I made a step from a wine bottle box.

All over the apt, there are beds for the two, in their preferred spots. They spend hours resting or sleeping in them, side by side. I always put towels everywhere, easy to wash, and limits destruction.
